Rain, Rain go away

well, another week, another blog...so, the last week has been pretty much the following...rain, rain and more rain. It has rained everyday for the last week and a half. And I'm not talking about a little drizzle, nor torrential downpours, but a steady, irritating rain. Welcome to winter in Taiwan! I thought nothing could depress me more than the cold, endless whiteness of Canadian winters, but I have to say that grey skies and being soaked all the time is neck and neck. I think the major reason I dislike the rain so much is that I've never really had to go out in it before...I've always had a car @ home, eliminating the necessity for an umbrella, or just simply didn't go outdoors, but here my umbrella has become my best friend. That coupled with the fact that I haven't seen the sun since my first day back is beginning to weigh heavily upon my state of mind. At least in Canadian winters, you get a glimpse of the sun, even if it's -20 C...sigh, I cannot wait until Spring gets here as I'm sure many of you are feeling. I think it's incredible that weather can affect my mood so much, but I swear to you all here and now that no matter what I have to do in a day, as long as the sun is shining, everything is coo' wit me. Does anyone else share this sentiment for our closest star?

Other than the pitter-patter of raindrops on the rooftop, things have been not too bad. Last week as I mentioned slowed to a crawl by starting time Thursday and by Thursday night we were wishin' it was Friday...but, we made it through somehow and lo and behold, friday night proved to be well worth the wait. Went to a surprise birthday party for the lovely and talented Anita, and it actually was a surprise 'cos her birthday wasn't for another week...so, got to see everybody we hadn't seen since coming back from holiday...got a late start on saturday so it was mostly just eating and a movie, then decided to head out for some $500NT, all-u-can drink action...got home and hung out with the roomies until the sun was up...sooo, sunday was again a late start to the day and was again mostly eating, movies and then ended up being an intimate gathering with more drinking @ our house...monday, the holiday, was a quiet day again watching movies, and eating but mei you pi jiu. So, i guess the theme of our long weekend was drinking, movies, and all other things decadent.

Some good new on the job front, I have acquired more hours @ my job, doing telephone testing, so that's cool. Also, some new private students which I tutor for the first time this Thursday so the money will be rolling in, and I'll be laughing all the way to the bank. It'll be a nice change saving some money instead of taking what change i have to the bank a few days before payday and asking them to exchange it for bills so it seems like more. Sigh, i'm exaggerating a little but for those who know me best know i can be a bit of a spendthrift, and not much of a saver. BUT, this year the plan is to save, save, save so I can actually have a bank account...what a concept. I've budgeted things out and i can still save as i need and should, without curtailing my fun too much.

Well, enough about my financial planning, just one more notable thing to mention that kind of wraps up this blog in a nice, neat little package is that today is the 1st of March and as they say @ home if March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb....well, here in Taiwan it's come in like a Lion, so I guess I've got the lamb-like days ahead to look forward to.
