at the prsent time, my school and its' various branches scattered throughout the country, are preparing for the annual victoria american school story contest. this contest is for all ages, from kindergarten up to grade 6. with only 2 weeks before the day, the push is on for everyone to have it perfect.
pressure is mounting. not only on the teachers, but the students as well. the older students have the advantage when comparing them to the K classes. the older students will have a randomly-chosen article , from 5 which they are already familiar with. the onus will be on them to do well in pronunciation and fluency. the k classes on the other hand, have to know only 1 story but must have it commited to memory, complete with gestures to along with the telling of. although i think this is a lot for them to handle, most seem able to rise to the challenge. still, can you imagine being 5 years old, standing in a room of people and having to recite a 2-minute story with actions, in a foreign language? daunting is the word you're looking for dear reader, daunting. the closest i have ever come to doing something like that recently was during a parents' day...more on that in a bit.
still, these kids are amazing. they take abuse daily from their teachers about "stand up properly!" "open your mouth!" "LOUDER, RUBY, LOUDER!!" and so on, but they still try their best no matter what. some moments of hilarity have ensued, as gestures were incorrect, or funny pronunciations. pour l'example, one of K3 students creating his own gestures for "little girl" by making a motion @ chest level, without a doubt indicating large breasts. i said "little girl", eric, not voluptuous woman.
* "Everyday on my gay to school..."
* "I tried many ways to try me grow up..." (how it was written, and now how it is said)
these, plus many more moments. sometimes, the class will come to a halt just so teacher ryan can compose himself. anyway, kudos my little friends, kudos. i do empathize with your situation 'cos as i mentioned before, i once decided to give a little speech in chinese to impress my students' parent's, only i meant to say "because i am sick, i will have teacher diana translate for me." but what i really said was "i enjoy having sex with cats as teacher diana will tell you."
