i mentioned in the previous post that i had been contemplating over some different jobs...well, that decision has been made...tomorrow, i'm accepting a full-time position at a Victoria School (a English-teaching franchise) starting August 17th. i went for my demo/interview friday morning and won them over with my commanding presence, impeccable north american accent and white face. on the bus ride home, i was feeling good then i got a phone call from my agent and she said "ryan, they love you! they can't stop talking about you're great teaching!"...my head swelled up to an immeasurable proportion i'm surprised it didn't just pop off and float away.

the details are that i will be teaching a kindergarten class, everyday from 9-3, then an hour off before i teach older students aged 10-12 for two hours everyday, monday-friday. i was a little nervous about teaching students that young as i like the interaction between the older students, but after being in the trenches with 'em, it ain't that bad,
the teaching jobs aren't the only decisions that have been made these last few days...vacation plans have finally been decided...off to thailand again, this time going to koi samui, yet another island and it's where they filmed "the beach." leesh and i are travelling with corey and anita this time, trying out a couples vacation as it were. should be a good time...i can't wait to lie on those golden beaches, get massages everyday and eat like a prince...thai food has to be my favourite...just fresh, flavourful spicy and simple. anyway i'm sure i won't want to come after only being there a week.

lots going on in or around the city this weekend...there was the totally board concert/board demonstration being held @ CKS...checked it out on friday night, was pretty cool...they had setup a 30 m snowboard hill...how they kept it frozen, in taiwan in the middle of july is anyone's guess...they also had free concerts going on and i actually got to see coolio perform...didn't even know he was coming to the city, but it was a nice surprise...the hai-ho-yan rock festival was happening @ fulong beach, but we didn't make it there as it is renowned for being much hassle to get to...saturday was the day we were celebrating diana's birthday by bowling, bbq'ing and then dancing. had the bbq @

anita&corey's and it was good...afterwards, most of the gang wanted to watch the rugby so leesh and i came home while the others went to watch...met up with them afterwards and decided on COR. closed the place down and then off to everybody's favourite after hours, Vibe. i don't know if i've mentioned vibe or not before, but it's infamous amongst taipeites...known for being the only place open after 5 am, everyone who comes to live in taipei has been there at least once or twice. yours truly has been more than i care to admit, but it's not a nice place...dirty, cheap and full of foreign men on the prowl...it's shameful to even admit going there...people are looking for one thing and that's to go home with anything resembling female...you can smell the desperation in the air...but, like i said it's the only thing open after 5 am and conveniently located just three blocks from my house.
'kay folks, i'm off...next time i write to you will be a few weeks from now as that pesky vacation to thailand will get in the way con sarn it...i'll post some pictures and stuff when i get back...ttyl
