social obligations

here we go again. been going out like it's going out of style...ever since we've been back from holidays, the social calendar has been filling up left, right and centre. not to sound like i'm the most popular boy in taiwan, but march is turning out to be a busy, busy month. last weekend, went out large not one, not two, but three, count 'em three nights. just playing catchup with the crew...went out friday to an area of taipei i hadn't been to before, nicknamed the "combat zone." it's a narrow street, only open to pedestrians and has literally 20 little pubs all in a row. mostly popular with chinese men as it attracts a lot of prostitution, it would be the closest thing to a red light district in taiwan. visions of a real, pub crawl danced through my mind....something to be organized @ a later time. anyway, we picked a respectable establishment and had a good time playing cards and drinking room temperature taiwan beer. the next night, we headed out again and decided on VS (short for vaccuum space). it was all-u-can-drink, and we did pretty much just that. afterwards, hung out on the steps of da'an MRT station until it opened for business @ 5:30am and we were shamed into catching a cab back to ours. after some bacon and eggs, bedtime. sunday was a much needed rest, then monday night we headed out again to the party room for some more all-u-can-drink action and once again, shamefully poured ourselves into bed @ 7 bells. tuesday(2-28 and a public holiday) was spent mostly in bed.

this weekend, had a pretty quiet night on friday. went out with the boys for a few @ cafe odeon, then some cheaper beers near taida university. got home this time @ a more respectable hour as we had long, overdue lunch plans with some taiwanese friends, jodie and ethan. had some great indian fare from himalaya, and then home for a quick nap before dressing ourselves to head to a bad taste party hosted by one of elisha's co-workers. had a blast...very small, intimate gathering and of course everyone was looking ridiculous. another late one, but quickly caught a cab after the revealing sunshine exposed us to the wide-awake world.

the rest of the month is gearing up as well. next weekend, we have a birthday party for another of elisha's co-workers, which is dinner and bowling. the weekend after that is st. patrick's day so being of irish descent one can guess what that evening will entail. the weekend after that is a going-away party for the one and only daizy lux in her neck of the woods, and finally the weekend after that is spring scream, the annual, 5-day, indie-rock concert which isn't an event to be missed.

phew! i'm exhausted just thinking about it! nothing like having your dance card full before you even hit the floor. now, i love a good party and can't say no to anyone, but yeesh! after this month, i will most definetely need some r&r for a weekend, or possibly a reservation @ the nearest detox centre. which brings me to my point....i've been backtracking through my entries and have come to the realization that i have become what i would term a weekend warrior. someone who live for the weekend and the weekend only. or rather, the weekend evenings as i sleep most of saturday and sunday away. although this rock'n'roll lifestyle is fun, it's like i don't do anything else but go out...i need to start doing more stuff, like exercise or take a class of some sort, and get out of this rut a bit. i'm not saying i won't go out anymore, but i think the days of 7 hours of sleep for an entire weekend is coming slowly, but surely to an end. that being said, i can remember the last time i tried to stay in on a friday night and by 10:30 i was nearly tearing my hair out 'cos i was so bored. sigh. will there ever be a rainbow?
